Who runs this hotline?
This hotline is run by Healing Roots Inc, a non profit dedicated to providing mental health resources to Native people, and was created by Dr. Anitra Warrior, a member of the Ponca Nation.
What are your hours?
We’re open from 6pm-2am Monday-Friday and 10am-2am Saturday and Sunday. Times are CST.
Are there real people on the other line?
Yes, after the initial intake questions your messages are answered by live hotline agents during our open hours. If you reach us after hours, we’ll get back to you the next time an agent is available.
Is this run by Native Americans?
Yes! All of the agents who respond to users on our line are Native. Most of the admin staff is Native as well.
Is this a free service?
Yes, using the hotline will always be a free service. Depending on your cell phone plan you might incur SMS charges if you don’t have unlimited SMS in your plan. If it doesn’t cost you money to text friends and family, you shouldn’t have to pay anything to your cell phone provider to text us.
Are my calls confidential?
Yes, all calls are confidential. Your conversation will not be shared with members of your community or anyone else with one exception: w e do have mandatory reporting and active rescue policies in case of harm to a minor or imminent risk to yourself or someone else.
Is my information kept private?
Yes, we’ll never sell or use your information, or share it with anyone else. We do use general data in our reporting and fundraising, but we will never use any identifying information or direct quotes.
